The telecom industry seems to have open source on the brain right now, and the Linux Foundation’s Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP) is one of the fastest growing open source projects out there. The orchestration and automation platform, which powers all stages of virtualization initiatives from design to life-cycle management, is poised to transform networks worldwide, making them more efficient, agile and ready to embrace new technologies.
More than 60 percent of mobile subscribers worldwide are now supported by ONAP, only 16 months after its inception. But does ONAP truly warrant the hype, and will it deliver on its promises?
That’s what our COO, Mark Abolafia, explores in Pipeline’s latest issue on Support Systems.
“You could say that ONAP is having a moment, but we think it will be more than just 20 minutes of fame,” he writes in “Delivering on the ONAP Promise: How It Will Transform Service Provider & Enterprise Networks.”

“Industry players, regardless of their level of involvement with ONAP, are waiting anxiously for ONAP’s Beijing release,” the article states. “We’re only on the second letter; what will the platform offer us as we move through the alphabet?”
